Linda B. Akanbi (Atkinson) grew up in Newport News, Virginia. She received her B.S. Degree in Education at West Virginia State University, where she majored in elementary education. She earned an M. Ed. Degree and an Ed.D Degree in reading education at the University of New York at Buffalo. She has taught at major colleges and universities in the United States and in Nigeria, educating teachers and training reading specialists. Most recently, she retired from Kennesaw State University, where she served as Professor and Chair of the Department of Elementary and Early Childhood Education and as Director of the P-12 Reading Institute. She was the recipient of the 2018 West Virginia State University Distinguished Alumnus Award for Educational Leadership from the WVSU National Alumni Association. She is a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She likes to balance her professional writing with personal stories. She is currently working on a book of short stories about her life in Nigeria.

Ancella R. Bickley was educated at West Virginia State, Marshall, and WVU, where she earned her Ed.D. She served on the West Virginia African-American Tourism Advisory Committee. In addition to her history of the West Virginia Schools for the Colored Deaf and Blind, she has written several articles and co-edited the book Memphis Tennessee Garrison: The Remarkable Story of a Black Appalachian Woman.

He taught literacy and public health in Togo and Ghana, West Africa, for five years, which led to a full scholarship for a master's degree in public health at UCLA. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Southern California, where he taught; practiced psychology; conducted deep meditation workshops for the critically ill, and has traveled the world. He is retired and lives in Rancho Mirage, CA.

From the top of the silo, he stares at the city in the distance, dreaming of lattes, museums, and penthouse suites. But the other animals warn him the city is no place for fowl. A chicken's home, they say, is on the farm. When Stu finds himself on a truck headed toward the bright lights and tall buildings, he decides to prove just how citified farming can be!

After graduating from West Virginia State University, he went back to his hometown Baltimore City and started a program called ProjectHope which was a program aimed to serve unprivileged black males in his community.
