License Plate Campaign

 

 

 

WVSU specialty license plates are now available for pre-order for West Virginia drivers. Department of Motor Vehicles requires a minimum of 250 pre-orders by April 21, 2023, for the production of plates to commence. So, now is the time to order yours.

  • HOW MUCH DOES A PLATE COST?
    -     An individual must pay $95.00 per license plate, which includes the tag fee and a small processing fee. There is no donation to WVSU included in this purchase. Individuals may pre-order more than one license plate. The processing fee is not refundable.
  • WHAT FORM DO I NEED TO FILL OUT?
    -     In order to successfilly pre-order, you MUST fill out the DMV Form and return to the Office of Alumni Relations. Please email your form to alumni@wvstateu.edu or mail to:

  • WHAT IS THE DEADLINE TO PAY FOR A PLATE?
    -WVSU must submit the minimum number of 250 applications along with the fees to the DMV by APRIL 21, 2023.
  • CAN I PURCHASE A PLATE FOR MORE THAN ONE CAR?
    -Yes, and we encourage you to do so! Since WVSU is required to submit specific information for each vehicle to the DMV, we ask that you place separate orders for each vehicle. 
  • ONCE I PURCHASE A PLATE, WHEN CAN I EXPECT TO RECIEVE IT?
    -WVSU must have the funds and information for at least 250 plates in order to begin the process with the DMV. Once that occurs, the process is dependent on the DMV. Individuals will be mailed a letter from the state about their plate(s). They will need to take that letter to the local County Clerk’s office to finish the process, pay any necessary fees, and receive the plate. Plates will not be mailed to residences. At this time, we anticipate plates being available by end of the year-  2023.

  • WHAT IF I MOVE BEFORE THE PLATES BECOME AVAILABLE?
    -    If you move out of state and wish to be reimbursed, please email alumni@wvstateu.edu to request a refund. Please include your full name and the date on which you placed your order.
  • CAN I PURCHASE A LICENSE PLATE FOR A MOTORCYCLE OR RV? CAN MY HANDICAP TAG HAVE THE WVSU DESIGN?
    -    This design is not available for handicap, motorcycle, or RV license plates.
