The Impact of a Gift

Like so many alumni, Pat Matthews, ’74, felt compelled to give back to his alma mater because of the experiences he gained as a student.  A business student, Pat was active in basketball and baseball, serving as team captain for both sports. He was also first team all-conference for baseball.

In creating his gift plans, Pat wanted to support the teams he once helped lead.  He recently pledged $30,000 to the new WVSU Athletic Complex and to Yellow Jacket athletics.  $20,000 of his commitment will help fund construction of the new Athletic Complex.  The remaining $10,000 will be given through the W-Club to benefit basketball, baseball, and softball.

Today, Pat works as a production manager for Coastal Water Technology in Little River, South Carolina.  He stays connected to Yellow Jacket sports through his membership with the W-Club. When asked why he made the gift, Pat stated that “WVSU is my family; once a Jacket, always a Jacket.”

Mr. Matthews’ gift puts State one step closer to fully funding the new Athletic Complex, and provides much needed funding support for athletics. Your gift—of any size, to the purpose you choose—makes a difference in the lives of current State students.
