Greetings Eastern Region Alumni,

On behalf of alumni in the Eastern Region, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the WVSUNAA Eastern Region Web Site! I am so very happy to have served as Eastern Region Director since October of 2013.  We have done some amazing things and I’d like to thank the Eastern Region Presidents for their support, feedback, and unwavering commitment to their chapters and to the Alumni Association as a whole.

Some of our accomplishments during my tenure have been:

•Attendance at the April 2014 National Conference in Las Vegas, NV where I held my first Eastern Region meeting
•The start of quarterly meetings with the Eastern Region Presidents in June

•Baltimore, Charm City Chapter, and the Metropolitan Washington Alumni Chapter, hosted the Capital Campaign Reception in March at the Greenbelt, MD Marriott.  This event was supported by the Shenandoah Valley W Club Chapter.
•The very first Eastern Region Picnic took place in July at Watkins Park.
•During our Eastern Region meeting held at Homecoming the East voted to place the Eastern Region meetings outside of Homecoming.
•I attended the Earl Lloyd Classic in November and used this event as an opportunity to meet with Eastern Region students, Alumni Relations, and the Athletic Director.

•The Eastern Region web site was launched in January.
•The Regional Directors began meeting on issues and concerns that impact all regions.
•The Regional Directors had a successful “Dollars for Scholars” campaign which raised over $4,000 for Regional Scholarships.

•The Eastern Region reception, picnic, and meeting will take place in Upper Marlboro Maryland July 14th and July 15th.
•Eastern Region elections for Regional Director, Secretary, and Treasurer will take place during Homecoming.
•National initiatives for the Bridge Program are being communicated to chapter Presidents.

This is just a summary of our accomplishments. To view the most recent Eastern Region Newsletter, please click HERE.  We have much to look forward to.  The Eastern Region Reception, Picnic, and Meeting is available for registration. The time for Eastern Region nominations and elections are approaching.  I am hopeful that some of you will “Find the Leader in You” and answer the call for Eastern Region Director, Eastern Region Secretary and Eastern Region Treasurer.  It has been my pleasure to serve as your Eastern Region Director.

Election Notice:

I have asked the New York/New Jersey Chapter to serve as the Nomination/Election Committee for our election which will occur at Homecoming- September 28-30, 2017.  Please be reminded that there are specific time frames that we must follow in order to be in compliance with the Constitution and the By-laws of our Association. The Nomination Committee has already taken the first step in this process by selecting the chapter.  “The responsibility will be assigned to a chapter and their responsibilities shall be finalized at least sixty (60) days prior to the election year of Homecoming week.”   This means that the names of those running for office of Eastern Region Director, Eastern Region Secretary, or Eastern Region Treasurer must be submitted to the nomination committee before July 10, 2017.

Information sent to the committee should include address, telephone #, and email.  It must be ensured that each person is financial and willing to accept the position.  As noted, names must be received before July 10, 2017, and may be mailed, phoned or emailed to Michele Jones as indicated below.

Mail required information to:
West Virginia State University
Nomination Committee- New York/New Jersey Chapter
P O. Box 2025 Teaneck, New Jersey 07666
Email: Vicissitudesinc@aol.com
Telephone: 1-201-836-1346 (Michele Johnson Jones)

Voting Slate
Once names are received, the committee will develop a slate which will be available by July 24, 2017. For those attending Homecoming, the slate will be available so that one may vote at that time.  For those who will not be attending Homecoming, an absentee ballot may be requested.  As noted in our Constitution, “Members not attending Homecoming may request an absentee ballot no later than twenty one (21) days prior to the start of Homecoming  week and such ballots must be returned post marked no later than seven (7) days prior to the start of Homecoming week.” Contact Michele Jones, chairperson, for an absentee ballot at the above mentioned address commencing July 24, 2017. Again, I ask that you share this information with your members to ensure the effectiveness of our election process. Thank you for your attention to these matters.
